Learn how to master the rules of baccarat!
baccarat Is a game loved by many game enthusiasts around the world.
And as with some other casino games (for example, blackjack), a certain skill plays in. Still, not in the same way as in blackjack. In fact, baccarat rules are not so complicated, so it's a simple game.
But after all, it is important to know the baccarat rules to gain an understanding of how the game works, in order to play it with the best possible conditions!
If you are a beginner for this with baccarat, hopefully you will feel much wiser after reading this guide.
But before you read on, we will advise you to also check out our basic guide on baccarat rules. In it we generally tell you about the game and we also recommend that you test the game, preferably before reading this guide.
We have also written two other guides about baccarat that you should also read:
Then we start. Hang!
Target in baccarat
Before we move on, we thought to tell you what the goal of the game is. In baccarat it is important to get as close to 9 as possible, it is the winning hand.
The player must bet on either the player's hand (The Player), on the bank's hand (The Bank) or that there will be even/draw.
The goal in Baccarat is simply to guess which of the hands manages to get almost 9!
Baccarat is played with four, six or eight decks placed on "Shoe" in addition to three fields on the table - the bank, the player or the silence (draw).
The players switch to being a bank.
The value of the cards
Map | Value (points) |
A (ess) | 1 |
King | 0 |
Dame | 0 |
Jack, 10 | 0 |
9 | 9 |
8 | 8 |
7 | 7 |
6 | 6 |
5 | 5 |
4 | 4 |
3 | 3 |
2 | 2 |
What does "baccarat" really mean?
Baccarat comes from Italian and means "zero". This is because the image cards and tier have the value zero in baccarat, which is unusual, as they have high value in most other games.
How to count:
If the total sum on the hand exceeds 10, the second digit is counted in the sum.
Example:
7 + 7 = 14, we keep 4 points.
5 + 0 + 4 = 9, the score becomes 9 on that hand.
Types of bets in baccarat
Now we will tell you more about the various efforts that can be made in baccarat.
But before that we would like to mention that, just like in many other casino games, there are various baccarat strategies that are also good to know if will play this game with the best conditions.
We've written a Own guide on baccarat strategies As you also have to check out, to be even better at mastering this game!
1. Rate on the player's hand
If you choose to bet that the player's hand will win, you will win if the value of this hand is better than the bank's hand.
The casino's advantage, if you bet on the player, is relatively low (about 1.24%), but the fact is that the benefit is even lower if you bet on the bank's hand instead.
2. Rate on the bank's hand
If you instead bet on the bank's hand, you win if this hand is better than the player's. The advantage of the house (EDGE) when it comes to this effort is about 1.06 %, which is considered a fairly low advantage, if you compare with many other casino games.
However, note the following: If you have bet on the bank's hand and this winner, you have to pay a fee to the casino (the baccarat rules may vary from casino to casino) and this is often 5%.
So if you bet $ 100 and winner, the winnings will be NOK 95 because 5% is deducted as a fee.
Another thing worth noting is that the probability that the bank's hand will win in Baccarat is around 45.85%.
3. Tie (draw)
In baccarat it is also possible to bet that it will be a draw (tie), ie that the player's and bank's hands will have the same value.
If you win on this effort, the winnings are usually 8-9 times the bet, which may sound tempting.
But remember: The probability of tie (draw) in baccarat is low, only around 9.53%. In addition, the house has an advantage of about 14% if you focus on a draw.
That being said, it is not good to bet on a draw (tie), and it is actually a fairly common beginner error to do so.
The chance of a draw is simply so low that the odds are not very good.
4. Par
This is a side effort in baccarat that is about betting on whether the first two cards distributed form a couple, such as two fives.
At some casinos you can bet that both the player and the bank get their own couple, but this can vary from casino to casino.
Therefore, we really want to emphasize that you always have the habit of reading the baccarat rules that apply, at the particular casino and the baccarat table you want to play.
Perfect couple
This page effort is a development of "couples" where you can bet even more determined that the player or bank gets a so -called "perfect couple". Then it simply has to get the best possible couple, both in terms of value and costume.
5. BIG HAND / BIG HAND
This page effort gives a profit if the total number of cards distributed to the player and the bank will be 5 or 6.
6. Small hand / small hand
This page effort gives a profit if the total amount of the player or the bank is 4.
7. Minimum/maximum effort
How much or little you can bet in baccarat depends on where you play and which baccarat variant you choose.
But above all, it is determined by the size of the table!
There are three different sizes of baccarat tables and these are: the big ones, the small and the medium sized.
The large baccarat table is generally reserved for big players and VIP players. The table inserts usually spend between NOK 500 as much as NOK 1 million.
The small baccarat table has lower wagering requirements and is therefore suitable for beginners or for those who have a smaller gaming budget.
Here the effort usually varies from NOK 50 to 250 USD.
In fact, the tables are also different when it comes to layout. The small table has a simplified layout with three bets and here there is room for up to 7 players while the large table can seat up to 14 players.
The large baccarat table and the small are the most common, but sometimes you can also find "Midi Baccarat" - the medium -sized table with space for up to 9 players.
Other side games in baccarat
In addition to the efforts we have gone through above, you can also encounter a number of other side games, or side inserts as it is also called.
However, some of them below are found, since some of them are unique to some land -based casinos.
We thought it could be fun to go through all the baccarat rules with side games, so you can keep an eye on them!
3 Card Wins
The page bet 3 Card Wins means you bet that the player or bank wins with three cards. If the player wins, it pays out 4: 1 and if the bank wins, it pays 5: 1.
3 Giving 8
You can find this page effort if you visit The Hippodrome Casino in London. It pays 200: 1 if the bank's hand gets three points after two cards or if the player's hand is worth 0-5 points after two cards or when a third is drawn. But also: If the third card the player receives is an eight.
4-5-6
It is rumored that this side initiative was seen at Hilton in Atlantic City. The page effort is that there are three possible effort options on the bank's and player's last hands. The bets are how many cards they should have drawn: 4, 5 or 6.
5 Treasures
These five bets are:
Fortune 7 - Same as «Dragon 7»
Golden 8 - Same as "Panda 8"

The player's hand has three cards of six and is a draw or loser.
The bank's hand has three cards of seven and a draw or loser.
Royal 9
This is a progressive side effort where you bet 50 USD. The gain is determined by whether the player or the bank has a "Royal 9" - which is a nier and a picture card.
Tiger
This is a side game in "Tiger No Commission Baccarat" that wins if the bank wins six times. The profit amount is determined depending on whether the six winnings consist of two or three cards.
Dragon Bonus
This is a popular side effort in the Baccarat Mini (small table). Here you bet on what the player or bank wins with.
Egalities
Here you focus on how it is a draw, through 7-7 or 5-5 and so on.

Lucky Nines
This page effort is to bet on how many nier the player or the bank gets on their first two cards.
Odds and payout
The advantage of the house - what is it?
In all casino games, the house (casino) has a certain advantage (edge). This is because they would otherwise have lost and gone bankrupt quite quickly.
We have written a separate guide about the advantage of the house Where to read everything about how this works!
The rules may vary
We have already talked a bit about this, that baccarat rules may vary depending on where you choose to play it.
But then it is also the case that there are today lots of different variants of baccarat, and for that reason the rules are also different.
No matter where you play baccarat, baccarat rules will be the same. But some obvious differences you may encounter are the number of decks used, usually there are six or eight.
After that, the bet levels may vary, just like the gains.
But mainly the baccarat rules are different depending on which variant you choose. Punto Banco is a well -known variant, as is the Chemin de Fer.
We've written a separate guide on baccarat variants As you are more than welcome to check out.
The rules for drawing cards
During a regular game with baccarat two cards per player is distributed, including the casino. But a third card can also be distributed and for this there are special baccarat rules.
If the first two cards together have a value of 5 or less, you must draw a third card. So you get 6, 7, 8 or 9, no more cards can be drawn.
But if you as a player can draw another card, there are special rules for the casino. If the casino has 0, 1 or 2 when the player's third card is drawn, the casino must also draw one more card.
But if the casino has 3, 4, 5 or 6, there are other rules depending on what the player gets on his third card.
- If the casino has 3, it must draw a new card, as long as the player's third card is not an 8.
- If the casino has 4, it must draw a third card if the player's third card is not 0, 1, 8 or 9.
- If the casino has a fifth, it must draw a third card if the player's third card is 4, 5, 6 or 7.
- If the casino has 6 and the player's third card is 6 or 7, the casino must draw one last card.
Everything is shown in the table below:
A game round in baccarat - step by step
We will now go through what a round of baccarat can look, step by step. Make sure you get into all baccarat rules in advance.
1. Make a deposit!
Since it is not possible to play live casino for free, you must first make a deposit at the casino you plan to play.
Read more about different the payment methods In our guide.
2. Place the effort
Depending on the table you have chosen to play, it may vary in terms of possible minimum and maximum bets.
But remember: Don't play for more than you can afford to lose. We recommend that you first create a gaming budget. Feel free to read more about responsible game In our guide.
3. The Dealer distributes the cards
When all the players around the table have placed their bets, the dealer begins to distribute the cards. Both the player and the bank receive two cards each.
The one I bet on got "Natural"!
Congratulations! "Natural" means that the first two cards distributed are worth either 8 or 9, and this is usually called Natural 8 or Natural 9.
You can jump directly to point 5!
4. The dealer rains the value of the cards
When both the player and the bank now have two cards each, the dealer calculates the total and thus the values of the hands.
We went through the values further up, but do this again! In Baccarat's points as follows:
Image cards and tens: 0 points.
Ace: 1 point.
All other cards: the value of the card.
The sum of each hand is the last digit in the short value:
Eksempel 1: 8 + 9 = 17 -> Poengsummen blir 7
Eksempel 2: Ess + 10 = 1 -> Poengsummen blir 1
Eksempel 3: 5 + Damer = 5 -> Poengsummen blir 5
Eksempel 4: 7 + 9 = 16 -> Poengsummen er 6
Depending on what the values are, a third card can be distributed, the rules for this we went through a little further up.
5. Time for payout
This is the last step in the round. Depending on which hand is almost 9, the bank or player wins. If both have the same value, it will be a draw.
You win depending on whether you are betting on the bank or player or a draw.
This is how the payout in Baccarat looks:
Effort | Payout | House advantage (House Edge) |
Player | 1:0.95 | 1,06% |
Banks | 1:1 | 1,24% |
Tie (draw) | 8:1 | 14,36% |
Banks couples | 11:1 | 10,36% |
Player by | 11:1 | 10,36% |
Perfect couple | 25:1 | 13,03% |
Big hand | 0.54:1 | 4,35% |
Small hand | 1.5:1 | 5,27% |
Have the advantage of the house (edge) and any fees in the back of the head
We have previously talked about this with the advantage of the house (Edge) and it does not hurt to repeat that if you bet on the bank's hand and this winner, you have to pay a fee to the casino (Baccarat rules can vary from casino to casino). This is often 5%.
